# this works far too well.
interesting thing on the telly yesterday which put forward a pretty sound argument that blew apart rather a lot of fundamental catholic beliefs.

# oh really?
what was that?
(, Mon 24 Mar 2008, 17:34, archived)
# it was pretty much centred on the 12 diciples
www.channel4.com/culture/microsites/C/can_you_believe_it/debates/disciples.html

and how their various stories have been altered over the years and bear very little relation to 'historical fact'. although as a total heathen any argument against anything the church has to say always makes me prick up my ears and pay attention. the programme maker is a believer though.

It was pretty interesting.

# I believe I will have something that looks and smells like a stir fry in a bit.

# You believe that your stir fry, and indeed yourself, exist
That's two things you have concrete faith in that I don't. :P

# He might not believe that the stir fry itself exists, but can still interact with it because if it does not exist then there are no repercussions.
Also you don't have to believe you exist, because the ability to believe validates your own existence.

That's Descartes for you.

# Oh I know I exist
But all you lot are just turing machines. :)

# i can't argue with that
but personally i don't do fathers, sons and holy ghosts, or anything that floats around in the ether and does magik.

i do however believe my stew is about done and i need to sort out some dumplings.
ttfn.

# I have a father, I am a son
and I once saw a ghost.... not sure if it was holy.

Enjoy your stew, just don't spend too much time wondering how a collection of atoms arranged in a structure tastes of dumpling.

# this is one of the interesting things I've discovered doing Biblical Studies
nearly all my lecturers are believers but all of them are ready to admit how much hokum its all based on. We have these two evangelical types who are on the same course and watching them kick off then get throughly patronised by the lecturer makes waking up in the morning worthwhile.

i don't suppose that program will be on channel 4 demand will it?

reminds me of that show jumper fellow, maybe he changed his name and took up theology when he retired.
