for all his liberal attitude, Zappa was somewhat a musical Fashist. His estate, ie., his wife, is also very particular regarding his image.
I believe Zappa helped DonVliet out ith a couple of tours, but artistically they never really saw eye-to-eye, although shared a great similarity "composer-wise". Zappa was definately the wiser in industry terms...]

in a Beefheart biography I've read (soz, don't remember which one) where CB turns up at Zappa's studio while he's trying to work,
and CB is practically starving, and starts intoning "Ain't No Santa Claus On The Evening Stage" over and over again until Zappa gives him some money to make him go away.
If it was me, I'd make 'Ice Cream For Crow' in revenge.

It was MrHorrible wot made me listen to a later rendition of Orange Claw Hammer. A great bit of Zappa Guitar, and BH poetry. However it is obvious that beefheart isn't mentally with it before the performance...]
