the midwife told us that one way to bring on labour was swallowing semen.

and sadly I couldn't find any evidence to support it.
There is (as you probably know) a chemical in semen that can act to soften the cervix and bring on labour (apparently).
My advice - keep banging away!

My wife can't eat pineapple anymore as she ate so much
at the time that she's still sick of it three years laster.
Also, nobody likes raspberry leaf tea.
