# Awwwww!
I love roos, they're fab.

Edit: And if you cross a Cricket with a Wombat?

A Cricket Wom, of course.

Your antipodean negativity shall not encroach upon my happy place.

# how close have you got to a roo?
(, Wed 4 Mar 2009, 11:01, archived)
# Well, I patted one.
How close is that?
And no, not in a zoo, either.

Edit: She (for it was a she) seemed quite docile, and yes, I do understand it's not the norm.

# A wild one? Was it alive?
Like all animals they can be good and bad, just some people have very twisted concepts of that and get right pissed when they're attacked.

besides, I just love that video it's hilarious.

I fucking hate emus.

# Was it alive? What?
yeah, and the card I sent home read like this:

Dear Aunt Marjorie,

Having a lovely time in Australia, Uluru was very pretty, and Gladys and I spent a wonderful afternoon patting dead kangeroos. Hope you are all well, see you in two weeks,
lots of love,

# :D
I have to say that a dead wombat on the side of the hume highway was the only time i've seen one outside of captivity.

# I rather like Wombats, too
I grant that you do have a cracking selection of bizarre and dangerous animals round your way, though.

# most of them are fine provided you don't annoy them
personally I think the kookaburra is one of the best and nicest creatures we have

... it was one of the smelliest and least thrilling experiences of my life. Conversely, it was a defining moment for Mrs UnderCover...

# not a problem - I'll figure it out for myself I'm sure
it's just a bit of a frustration at the moment -- also I've just tried to SSH into it from work and that's not fucking working any more either.

I'm starting to think Ubuntu isn't as fun and easy to use as I had at first believed... either that or I don't really have a static IP address...
(, Wed 4 Mar 2009, 11:06, archived)
# the ssh crap is probably your firewall (ufw probably) blocking anything non local
or it's blocked higher up in the chain.

ubuntu is fairly simple. but you still need to set it up properly (yes those dirty dirty term windows rather than the nice happy guis)

ed: oh your work box may have changed ip addys? look at key exchange between them then. you have physical access to both of them.
(, Wed 4 Mar 2009, 11:12, archived)
# I'm suspicious I need to look at dynamic DNS
- I'm not sure I have a static IP address... although I thought I did.

Things don't seem to stay working when I get them working, which is what pisses me off. Should probably just get it all working and then leave it running in a corner.

yeah - it looks like my router's reset itself - it's not even returning pings any more.

# there's a few foibles that stop working from time to time.
but I've never found anything where i've gone and changed a config file or updated a rule, then restarted the process that's gone wrong.

Anything that has a gui on top of it though, i don't trust it.
