# yes, very much so
there is a LOT of charcter backstory to put up with, its takes a good while for the film to feel like it's going anywhere

# It is one of those tough ones.
I don't think they could have ever pleased everyone what with it being such a classic.

# then why make the fucking movie? other than the profit.
it irritates me when people (apparently) spoil things like this.

# I think you're wrong there.
None of the people who have commented here have said it was bad. I would much rather they try and make new films than the abomination of remaking classics over and over.

# It's sortof a general comment.
It pisses me of when a movie is made from a book and the movie wrecks it.

and the reviews here have convinced me not to see it. even though I still haven't read all the comics. (Yes if it betrays it in any way I'm miffed)

# I think that was the point
Wossy and Archie were making. It is too much a classic comic to maintain it verbatim.

# HUMPH HUMPH HUMPH
movies have really lost their appeal to me. Happened about the time the first star wars prequel came out. Not sure if that's a cause and effect.

I'm sure if I put my tin foil hat on there will be...

# that is one of the best tv shows ever made.
and yes mum thinks i should be on it.

# Ha.
I am reading the diaries at the moment :)

They are tres amusant!

# To be fair though
that's the whole point of the story. It tells itself in the comic by means of 'flashback' so I'm not sure that 'put up with' is a good term as it would be expected and impossible to tell the story without.

# indeed, it's a part of the story
but in adapting it for the movie, they could have cut it to under 90 minutes of backstory. It would have felt more suited to a cinema audience then, and could have shaved off a good 15 minutes of the running time.

# theres a three and a half hour directors cut coming on dvd and limited release
as well as the dvd of The Black Freighter on the 24th

# haha, I think the dvd will be right up your street then ;)
