# It's a fine line.
For years I presumed Doc Savage: Man of Bronze was a hilariously bad film before I realised it's actually just a camp parody which is so well done it's honestly dazzlingly bizaare.

Conversely there are loads of films which are terribly poor which are worshipped as being brilliant, like turkish Rambo.

# All my old favourites disappoint me as I get older.
I had the misfortune to see 'The Evil Dead' again recently and I wish I hadn't. It seemed so much better when I was 15.

# Evil Dead II
is much better - it's a retread with more laughs and a bigger budget, really.

that's true...but added laughing moose!

# What annoyed me is
I watched it on Blu-Ray and it was still grainy old shit. What's the point of bringing out a blu-ray for a film that was shot on granddad's super-8?

# I hope Drag Me To Hell
is good - it's been ages since Raimi's done horror.

# He's only a producer on that
which means he put money into it as opposed to artistic input..

If you count that as involved then he's made loads of films recently.

( most of them shit )

# Oh, right - I thought he was directing it.
Very different state of affairs, then - he has put his name and money behind some right shit, indeed...

# I stand corrected.
He's Director as well.

i still don't hold any hopes for it.

# I hope he comes up with the goods.
'A Simple Plan' was a great thriller. Mind you, that was over ten years ago...

# according to imdb
it's co-written with Ivan Raimi
which is an extremely bad sign
if Spiderman 3 or Army of Darkness are much to go by

disturbingly, Spiderman 4 & 5 are also showing up on imdb

# oh...the worst of both franchises, you're right.
and imdb is a bit ahead of itself, there, surely!

# it shows lots of titles in development, as well as out-and-out rumours.

Hence the continuing speculation about a new Evil Dead remake..
that's been going for a few years. : )

# I liked "The Gift" a lot, predictable as it was

also one of Keanu Reeves' better roles

# I never got round to seeing that one...
I'll have to check it out. Reeves in good film shocker!

# strongly recommended.
It's a neat cast, and successfully creepy.

That one was co-written by Billy Bob Thornton.
Raimi's a great director visually, but his writing is.. patchy.

# Keanu was really good in this movie.
It's one of the few films I've seen him in, so for a long time I didn't understand why people said he couldn't act. I've since learned, though.

...also, how did I go all this time not realizing Billy Bob Thornton and Sam Raimi were involved? I was probably aware of it at the time, but it didn't stay with me.

# it was shot on 16mm transferred to 32mm
although they did make 8mm films together in high school.

The DVD looks fine to me, though I've heard some people say the effects look better on VHS (I have both).. the Bruce Campbell commentary is great.

I don't know anything about BluRay but I imagine it is the new betamax
