I learned this too, after posting.
I only knew of the terrible film with Travolta and Hugh Jackson. I can't find any references to his hacker name being subzero, though, which I think is from a sci-fi novel (Neuromancer?)

hmmm. not sure which is better. I like steampunk, but neuromancer is a classic.
the diamond age is a good mix of the two (not gibson, but stephenson, to be sure).
