# pffft!
i think those signs are pretty redundant these days, what with babyseats and booster seats and so-forth
but wasn't the original function to get the emergency services to check the car fully for a baby in the footwell or wherever, in a car crash before babies were routinely strapped into special seats?

and I'd have to agree - putting it in your back window is hardly reliable if you crash...I'd always assumed that it was just to indicate why you were driving a spot on the cautious/slow side :)
