Also some will skip a year or pop out a year early.
I think the ground temperatures give them a clue
as to if there will be enough time before frost.

I remember, when I was young, filling a candy box with abandoned shells, and giving them to a neighbor girl who thought they were chocolates, until she opened the box ^~~^

...rarely made it above 90, which is unusual. Funny though, now with the cool nights, we get cicadas chirping until about 7pm, then the crickets come in around 8pm and chirp all night :/
