And my pun-gland must have been squeezed this morning as this appears to have seeped out. I'm putting it here out of the way. It's full of nutricious toapy goodness.

# TJ;
does anyone know of a free piece of video editing software that you don't have to be a professional to figure out how to use? All I want is to be able to extract a small section from an AVI file to make an animated GIF, and Microsoft Movie Maker is being shit (as always).

# Vdubmod.
virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net/

Super easy. I then use JASC Animation shop to turn it into an animated gif from an avi.

# Thanks
For some reason Movie Maker will never let me save anything once I've finished editing.

# It's a simple program.
You just select the bits you don't want with the "home" and "end" buttons and press delete. Voilá!

# Unfortunately, it crashes every time I try to open the original AVI file I want to extract from.
I think I'm going to have to convert the entire movie to JPG and just pick the frames I want.

# VDubmod?
Sounds like you might have a codec issue.
