You also have a Fratellis lyric as your signature
This is a good thing.

Yay!
:D
right now I can only seem to listen to the Fratellis, Straylight Run, and City and Colour. I need more in that vein.

I have never heard of two of those bands
It may be three. I don't know if City and Colour is a band, or if City is a band and Colour is another band.

I shall give them a listen
Even if it does feel weird taking musical advice from someone who is more or less half my age...
Edit: Despite myself, I've enjoyed both of these.

SHe's got great taste
her age belies her musical wisdom. The fatheral unit she was supplied with is well musically versed as well.
KK - do you know of Trespassers WIlliam?

She's American but somehow likes (and has even heard of) the Fratellis
which is certainly a good start.
Now to get her onto Idlewild.

Heard of them, but never listened before.
I'm listening now. I like. :]

they have an interesting career arc
that's from their first album, back in the days when they were basically punk. over the next few albums they flirted with rem-like folk rock, then with u2-like stadium rock, then more rem, and then told the lead singer to fuck off and record his damned fucking folk albums under his own name so that they could get back to playing rock. he did (and they're superb too, if you like folk), they did.
they're still a great band, but the early stuff has a ramshackle charm about it.

Wait...
What does being American have to do with it? I'm American...
And I like them just fine.
What about these fellows?

Didn't know the Fratellis had broken at all in the States
But I've been proven wrong in the past :)
Edit: There's something very early-mid 90s about them. They remind me quiet a bit of the Wannadies, actually.

well the two of you have managed to get the whole of costello music stuck in my head
and this will stop me getting to sleep, and it's an important day tomorrow too. I HOPE YOU'RE PROUD OF YOURSELVES.

Yeah
I've got a phone interview for a job I really want. After they told me I shouldn't need a phone interview because they already know me.
Actually I'm going to have to go to bed now to make sure I can be up early enough to actually read over what I put in my application to prepare. But rest assured that we shall be back to Pan-shaped apocalyptic normality tomorrow. (And if you missed yesterday's, it's here: www.b3ta.com/board/9816354)
OK, to bed, perchance to dream.

Straylight only have 2 full albums but I have them both and I can't listen to much else right now. Except City and Colour and the Fratellis. As I said. x]

I preferred the Straylight to the City and Colour
but I think I'll acquire both of them. Thanks for the links :)

My Fratellis Video
was banned by Warners a couple of weeks ago in a copyright claim, which was interesting as Warners don't own them. I got it back by contacting the Fratellis direct. But WMG then banned my Take it Easy vid, which they had already had muted 6 months ago. I had only left it there for the comments. They are so grown up.

Record companies are pricks
I'm going to learn how to do it myself and set up my own label. Doubtless I shall become a prick but hopefully I'll also get rich in the process.

Ah but if I'm starting a record label
then I get the right to sit there and poo-poo other people's music and laugh and snort coke and steal their ideas.
What a job. WHAT a job.

Actually i think the job now
is to churn out plastic Barbie/Ken bands doing covers or get someone to talk, sorry rap, over music from 30 years ago then whine that people are killing music by file sharing it.

Well, I can do all of that, too
That's *easy*.
In all seriousness it can't be hard to start a record label. I mean, Forward, Russia (no, sorry, upside-down exclamation mark Forward, Russia!) did it and they were an inbred pack of fucking retarded chumps who wrote really, really rubbish music.
You're not in Forward, Russia, are you? I don't think I'll be able to release your music if you are.

I'm not with any label, and never was
it was only ever a hobby and a bit of pin money; I did some session singing but really i was only ever resteraunt/hotel lobby class. I've retired now but still have a load of old demos*

Get those demos onto a computer
and start flogging them through iTunes. Unless Apple have stopped us being able to sell stuff through iTunes, in which case let's set up a small record label and register to flog them through iTunes.

But only covers, and they have all bindun, and far better. I will make my fortune elsewhere, methinks.

Vids, eh?
I believe* if you've got a record label, you can charge YouTube for video showings.
1) Upload vids
2) Set browser to watch videos a million times
3) Profit
* This may not be true but it'd be nice if it was.

Ha! foiled again
I have 80 vids posted, not all mine, and I'm at just under 2 million views, for the lot. At a tenth of a penny per view, we will be poor a looooong time.

Minus the record company's cut, you might see a few hundred bob. Better than a smack in the mouth on a dark night, eh?
