'So it isn't the original building?' I had asked my Japanese guide.
'But yes, of course it is,' he insisted, rather surprised at my question.
'But it's been burnt down?'
'Yes.'
'Twice.'
'Many times.'
'And rebuilt.'
'Of course. It is an important and historic building.'
'With completely new materials.'
'But of course. It was burnt down.'
'So how can it be the same building?'
'It is always the same building.'

# Japan is very much like that.
I loved the old temple on the hillside in Nagasaki. That sentence alone tells you everything you need to know about how they think about a location and spiritual sense of continuity of existence, rather than the actual materials being important.

In China they seem to just bash everything down if it's in the way.

# Roffles.
Yes, China seem to be realising that a cultural revolution turned out pretty bad for 21st Century Tourism. Now they're building lots of cheap imitation tourist attractions.

Trigger And that's what I've done. Maintained it for 20 years. This old brooms had 17 new heads and 14 new handles in its time.

# Only Fools is on BBC1 right now :D
Just had a classic Trigger moment.

Trigger: What's this Dave?
Rodney: It's Mozarts symphony number 34 in D Major.
Trigger: Are there no words to go with this?
Rodney: No.

......

Del Boy: What's this you're listening to?
Trigger: It's Mozart's symphony number 34 in D Major....It's the Karaoke Version.
