Oh right, because Mushrooms and Hemp/Cannabis were invented last week.....There is also a shockingly large difference between Heroin (EVIL) and other drugs. One of the biggest mistakes of the anti-drugs strategy in this country is to try and tar, say, cannabis and ecstacy (actually statistically two of the safest recreational drugs around) with the same brush as Crack Cocaine and Heroin (er, pretty fucking nasty).
Im fairly sure this leads to more Heroin and Crack use - after all, if the govornment made out like Pot was seriously bad and it wasnt, then surely they lied about Smack? Er, no.
Seriously, everyone should have to do science to A level BY LAW, especially MPs. How can you run a country with only a vaugest inkling of the scientific method and no idea about the dangers of so called 'common sense'. Gah.

Mushroom use goes back a long way, although it's never been as mainstream,it's had its uses in religious rituals, probably its association with paganism has put it in the bad books.
I don't know about cannabis, but smoking was never that much of a European thing as far as I know, except amongst the social elites who were into the more exotic stuff, so it's associated with decadence.
Booze, on the other hand, is the everyman's chemical escape, even the Bible attributes its invention to Noah, the ancestor of everyone living.

it depends upon the brand.You don't get much more than a big appetite with the old school Lebanese hash and the like ( I'd kill for a good chunk of gold seal right now ) but you just don't see that any more.
Meanwhile everybody is getting off their face with super skink and there are some early studies that suggest there may be a link with mental health problems later in life for heavy abusers but the motives and funding behind many of the studies make their results questionable.
Oh and I've not smoked weed in about 5 years in case you thought I might be a pot-head.
