that quote is a man completely and irrevocably out of touch with reality etched in stone, to the point it is not just blissfully ignorant, but bordering on the realms of utter disbelief
A monumental fuckwit.

I've just walked past someone on the street who said 'It's only incest if she puts it in her mouth' to whoever was on the other end of the phonecall.
Just thought I'd share that. Trying not to think too hard about the context...

They haven't been fashionable for years and won't have lost any fans.
It's Apple who invest a lot on being fashionable and so saying "Hey - we're cool just like U2!" isn't the best marketing trick.

I could think of nothing further than that debacle somehow making U2 'fashionable,' other than to mock them, or be reminded what a mediocre, sterile, and bland musical entity they have become

Not being a fashionable band, their fans aren't going to be put off by people saying they are shit. People have always said they are shit. It didn't make them fashionable, but it didn't make them less fashionable.
However, someone at Apple has decided that U2's brand is worth linking to their brand, which relies on people thinking they are fashionable.
I'm not sure Apple fanboys will be as loyal as U2 fans if they got the same reputation.

I may have overlooked the fact they have become sterile and bland, whilst still globally large enough, to be happily courted and used by Apple given the days of being 'punk rock' and actually saying anything have long gone from their music.
I guess bland has long been the marketing tool of choice. It doesn't offend anyone.
