One of my Industrial Design teachers also worked on the original Star Wars series
He produced Stormtrooper armor pieces and worked on some of the ship and vehicle models - he talked about his experiences after the movie came out, they came up with alternate names for a lot of the vehicles that were much funnier, but for the life of me I cannot remember them.
He also worked on Indiana Jones, RoboCop and a few other interesting films - Pete Ronzani

probably from reading the wider universe including about 50 odd books, several cartoons,...and apparently even 3 other movies. There's even a Haynes manuals for a lot of the main vehicles.
