There's no evidence that being anti-Brexit harms a comic's career, says Stewart Lee

however I'd like to offer some anecdotal evidence that I think is relevant. I know someone who went to see Lee Nelson live (I know, I was shocked to know someone who'd watch him on tv, nevermind pay money to see him, but there you go). Anyway, it was somewhere outside London, Essex I think, and he did some anti Brexit stuff and absolutely died. He got quite flustered apparently and awkwardly changed tack after a bit, but it was in the second half and he never really recovered.

I don't get annoyed, just find it a bit safe and boring.
However I can imagine a situation where if you go to a town that voted heavily for brexit and spend your act saying how wrong they are it's not going to get a laugh.

....when someone says the subtitle for his thrilling titled and in no way sappy, vacuous looking, new book, should in fact be: How this Remainder spends every waking moment demonizing the working class he once made money off cos the EU is lully and they are low information and gullible.

Even comics I really like cannot make their anti-Brexit stuff funny and the constant yawnsomeness of what the also-rans do is painfully dull. The only person to have reflected on his remainder position with some kind of self-awareness is Adam Buxton, as far as I'm aware.

doing an anti-Brexit show hasn't hit his audience. That's the only one in the list who has any sort of blurred line in their politics/audience.
I read that Telegraph article the other day and did wonder how Marcus Brigstocke knew why someone was walking out of his show. I'm not sure how long I could last watching him do a routine on Brexit, and it wouldn't be because I disagreed with him.
