It's not like the BBC is just a TV channel. BBC Micro*?

It's software not hardware, and they've generally done well there with the iplayer (sounds app aside). It'll probably just be a pointlessly voice activated iplayer.

The Micro was a product of it's time. Microcomputers had clear untapped potential, and the BBC were instrumental in getting them into people's homes.

However...

The boat has sailed with voice assistants. They've been on every smartphone and therefore in the pocket of nearly everyone in the country for the last five years. The last eight in the case of Siri.

they'd get even more of a kicking from the right and everyone would just moan about the licence fee.
