But cool nonetheless. What did you make it with?

I used Reason for sequencing, Recycle for chopping and Audacity for getting samples.

I don't know what it is about Reason but I've never been able to get on with it when using it as a sequencer. I occasionally use it to create the odd unusual sound though. As for Audacity and Recycle, I've heard of both of them but never used them, they any good?

but it's free.
audacity.sourceforge.net/

You can do both of those.
Timestretching can be done by selecting a segment of a sample, going to 'audio' at the top and selecting 'stretch to...' or something similar. Took me a while to figure out but that's only cos I hadn't read the manual. It's a piece of piss once you have the knowhow! You can also map a piece directly to the time signature you're using, rather than stretching it and squishing it til it fits.
Also, a lot of people favour Logic over actual mastering software like Ozone or WaveLab...

But i use logic 5.5 on a PC, and the way it processes sound is much inferior to a dedicated audio suite... Apparently this has been dealt with on the Mac versions since.
I didn't know about the time stretching function.

Being a smug up-their-own-arse mac user, I look down with contempt upon lowly PCs.

I've considered changing to Cubase... or indeed getting a Mac.
( , Wed 30 Jan 2008, 21:07, Reply)

I cannot stand Cubase.
It's not that it lacks features or anything, it's just horrifically unintuitive to use, to the point that it actually makes it really frustrating.

can logic record stuff off you computer ie youtube though?
if not, audacity is for you.
( , Wed 30 Jan 2008, 20:53, Reply)

but I was turned onto reason by c_kick, and find it easy to get ideas down in it.
( , Wed 30 Jan 2008, 20:53, Reply)

I have to say, as great as Logic is, it's not the easiest thing just to get onto and throw ideas down with.
I used to use Garageband when I just started out and, for all its faults and lack of versatility, there's no better DAW for just chucking ideas about and getting stuff out of your head.

It's made worse by the fact that I don't have a midi keyboard so it's painful note-painting for me...

mainly phone convos (not secret stuff) just so i can keep and work on a record of what was said.... it's awesome for ease of use...
you set a target and hit record... the quality is like a sony mini disk recorder...

Recycle's brilliant for chopping stuff up ie amens etc.
Reason's pretty much all I can use on my puter, it doesn't like cubase and I don't like fruityloops. I still haven't worked out ableton either, though it seems pretty good. I'm used to reason though so all's good!
( , Wed 30 Jan 2008, 20:44, Reply)

I will never figure Ableton out. I'd love to figure out how to do live sets with it but oddly I just find it impenetrable.
(Added to that, I don't think it's much of a thrill for an audience to see a guy stand at a laptop for two hours. At least DJing has a certain degree of 'performance' to it)

Some of the guys we've had down at our nights have played some insane laptop sets. Dolphin and Teknoist are the best I've seen. Bong Ra kicks arse too...

But bear in mind I have none of the visual art and displays and whatnot.
I still think the sight of a skinny young white lad behind a mac wouldn't exactly thrill the tits off the crowd.
At least when I DJ I can be a bit dynamic and animated...

I still use decks, but the last few breakcore nights I've played at I've been the only one without a laptop o_O
( , Wed 30 Jan 2008, 21:12, Reply)

You'd never get that at a drum and bass night...they're commited to the vinyl...
You a CD whore or a vinyl purist? Or a happy medium?
( , Wed 30 Jan 2008, 21:19, Reply)

so a happy medium!
most dnb djs mix cds now. bah!
( , Wed 30 Jan 2008, 21:24, Reply)

Since I play a lot of my own stuff and I get a lot of mp3s off the net. But I can DJ vinyl as well, unlike many CDJs!
There's quite a lot of DnB DJs near me that cling to vinyl like it's a superior master race that we must all bow down to, and CDs are an evil hellbent on ruining the Reich of the LPs...
Or something like that.

and it chops the phrase into individual hits, then you can export the WAVS, with the MIDI file straight to the sequencer.
Yu can also use it for vocals, guitar parts etc..
