As a fan of Tim Hunkin and “the secret life of machines”
and as someone who is always tinkering with stuff in my shed... I’m very excited about this

I'm giving that a like without even watching it.
I still have a small collection of cuttings from a Sunday magazine which were by Hunkin, called "The Rudiments of Wisdom" - just fantastic in all kinds of ways.

I had the anthology!
Was only a snotty kid so I didn't really grasp how great it is. Seeing it in the wild in the Observer must have been magic.

I still have it
Big green book. "Almost everything there is to know by hunkin". It's awesome.

Get the book - hours of fun!
I used to religiously read the Hunkin strip every week - it was an absolute highlight, sad bugger that I was.
Ok, am!

Have you been to his place (I would hesitate to call it a museum, more a palace of lunacy) in London?
It's brilliant if you're passing Bloomsbury

I haven't been to the one in London
but I have been to his place on Southwold Pier.
One time I was there, he was there doing maintenance on some of the machines and we got chatting. He's a thoroughly lovely chap!
Some mates and I also managed to persuade him to give us a tour of his workshop, and spent an afternoon talking to him about stuff he was building, stuff we were building, clocks, his chickens...
He's amazing.

Is that connected to the Cabaret Mechanical Theatre
That used to be in Covent Garden? IIRC it moved out of central London for a while but the last time I checked I couldn't find it.

Yes, it has some of the stuff from there, plus new stuff
it's called www.novelty-automation.com/ and I've seen him in there a couple of times doing maintenance and he is still lovely and enthusiastic
