There's certainly a lot of formulaic D'n'B out there, but that can be said of any genre of music.
My favourite types may be decried as not strictly being drum and bass by purists, being more towards Jungle or drill'n'bass (e.g. Squarepusher).
However, I've always loved this album, which is what I'd consider more straight-up drum'n'bass.
