This is a normal post I tend to agree, but
- the UK monarchy is way cheaper than the US Presidency, for example. If we're going to have a head of state, I think it's better that they're irrelevant and ceremonial than that expensive shit show.

This is a normal post I always wonder which worldwide incarnation of a Presidency UK republicans look at as preferable.
I understand the desire to step away from ruling by birthright, but I genuinely struggle to identify a system that works any better than ours.

This is a normal post Our system is pretty good, which is why I propose we keep it.
Our defacto head of state is the Speaker of the House of Commons. He welcomes foreign dignitaries and is the authority figure who even the Prime Minister must obey. I propose we formalise the office as head of state, keeping the way Speakers are elected and not extending their powers in any way.

We can keep the royal family, but strip them of all their political and military powers so the monarch would no longer be our head of state. We would also abolish the civil list. All members of the royal family would become citizens of the republic. There would be no more royal subjects.

Military and political oaths will be made to the people.

The state religion is a bit tricky, as it makes no sense to have the Speaker as the head of the church. That said. it never made sense for the head of state to be the head of the church either.

This is a normal post What a load of nonsense.
A military dictatorship would be cheaper than a democracy.
