He needs to do something with that roof. That feels like wasted space. You must be able to grow something up there.
Otherwise though, it actually seems like quite a good idea. Wonder if it's noisy when it rains?

I'd make a rooftop dining area or like you say, grow more plants. I reckon a dining area so it felt like you were having dinner in the clouds/stars.
I just really liked the idea of always being able to go outside to have dinner amongst tropical plants, even if it's raining. Especially if it's raining.
I reckon it would pair well with solar power and heat pumps. You could probably lower your electric and gas bills to practically zero. I'd also put in some way to make power from that heat gradient.

If you want to have dinner under glass surrounded by plants, it's probably easier and cheaper to just get a conservatory.

But I was planning on building one pretty much on the Welsh border, so that also counts for the sort of place you don't want to experience the actual weather.
