I tried this
on my kitty earlier when she was scratching the sofa. I didn't have a bulldog clip handy, so I just used one hand to pinch the back of her neck (gently) and the other to remove her claws from the sofa. She looked at me in awe after with a "how the hell did you do that?" sort of face. She hasn't done it since.

tried the deactivating thing on my cat and i can honestly say that parking a car on the scuff of the neck will deactivat the cat
not found out how to re animate it yet
