somebody is arguing in support of that theory at great length in the comments. Apparently legalising same sex marriage would have enormous economic costs and negatively affect hetero couples. Though he declines to explain exactly how.

Erm, it's obvious isn't it??
I think actually it would be of immense economic benefit seeing as that the amount of money spent on the average wedding is in the tens of thousands.
Then when they get divorced they have to pay again! It's a great money making scheme for caterers, lawyers and florists!
Let's end the economic crisis by allowing any fucker to marry anything!
