Elderly Frenchman makes triodes and makes it look easy. Possibly glasscock, apologies if so, but it's still a nice, relaxing vid before beddy-byes.
edit: If anyone here can work glass, I'd love to know why the guy blackens it first.

I haven't felt bold enough to watch it yet

it definitely is GC, but as someone who fancies themselves as being good with electronics one day, I enjoyed it.

At least someone enjoyed it, so it's not a complete embarrassment.

i really wish i had the opportunity to play with glass more. regarding the blackening, my experience has been that it is simply a chemical reaction from lower heat being used first to bring it up to temp, the glass will crack if brought too hot too fast. it hasnt happened each time though.

I think the "blackening" is just a result of starting heating with a colder, yellow, flame. He does the same after working the footing. Reckon this is to avoid breaking through heat-shock.

also each piece had a little sojourn in the annealing oven so it could relax between being worked.

The glass is blackened due to an orange flame being used to initially warm the glass before the blue flame does it's thing. As you may see from the wire used to slice the tubes, a very hot very quick action on the glass will destroy it.
My favourite part was the home made spot welding rig.
Edit:btw enjoyed the video and was typing when 'My Front Fell Off' posted. It's a good sign that we both agree. d;]

That rough casting, that fly press action, those shiny electrodes... and she twitches when you flick her switch.

How French was that? Badly looped piano jazz, the sound of a passing TGV and a man using a particularly ferocious gas torch whilst wearing a tweed jacket.

I'm a massive valve nerd. I wish I had some of that kit in my garage. I'd bloody love to spend my weekend knocking up some a few ECC-83 and the odd ECC-88. Long may the old Frenchman and his home made tubes live! Thanks Jonbob!
