A friend is currently lecturing in Moscow.
She's amazed by the silence on the street- people DON'T interact/get involved: she's walked past lots of dead bodies too, which seasoned Muscovites happily walk over, as if not noticing.

read something about this a while ago
seems folk got used to people dieing in the very cold and snowy winter nights and then turning up in spring. not sure if it's true but similar behaviour is observed with New Yorks homeless.

I (used to) know a guy in Bristol who used to lie in an underpass and one day he died there. No-one noticed all day.
