But that's largely what SS1 looked like too. Thing is they're burning laughing gas and rubber. I don't know what the by-products of that reaction are, but I'm willing to bet its not water.

The orange is uncombusted carbon, the black is soot, so also unconbusted carbon.

The rocket motor is pretty low-tech, and the whole project seems rather shoestring. I don't think I'll be buying a ticket.
