Hi b3ta. So I've come up with a nice sounding synth riff for a band I'm in, but I've started to worry: Have I subconsciously stolen it from some late 90's trance tune?
Your challenge then, is to listen to the clip, and let me know of any tunes you know of which it sounds suspiciously similar to.
thanks
EDIT: Cheers guys, I'll post it when it's done :-)

Still nice though. Don't worry about it. Talent borrows, genius steals.

Sounds a bit like ATB - 9pm till I come but not anywhere near enough to be an actual subconsious steal. Best of luck with the project, can't wait to hear some of your band's finished stuff.

its always going to be similar to an existing melody, but it'd be nice to know it wasn't unintentionally note-for-note

It's just a few chords, relax and do what feels right rather than worrying every step of the way. More than half the pop industry is just ripping off the pachelbel canon anyway.
I mean I wrote a track a few months ago that turned out having the same chords as Aimee Man's 'wise up', but that's her problem not mine. Either way I'm the only one so far that's noticed.

but then it would. Music is finite. There are only so many notes, and only so many orders you can play them in. If you tried hard enough you might find you'd copied a 14th century folk song. So as said above, relax, create and enjoy.

They sound MUCH better doubled with a pop snare or a bit of pink noise.
