Everything I've heard about this game is positive. The fact that you can't die makes things like this robbery here mean something. Shame about them playing music like the ballbags that used to be on yahoo chat back in the day though.

playing it myself atm its fun but there seems to be absence of friendly people on it encounters with players usually start with gunfire

Last night in Day Z
I suffered my very first frenzied axe attack by another player.
After a restart I was in one of the bigger towns and I could hear a player over the direct comms channel (basically, the mic communication channel that simulates normal speech, and only extends about 20-30m in game). So I decided to start whispering lines from this Big Train sketch:
