I got bored with my D50, so I set it up to take a pic once every 30s until I got bored of the boredom. The resulting video is the 460 images taken from 19:31 to 23:25. This station never sleeps!

use some sort of pc-software/firmware to the camera for that or is that built in?

Nikon have this program for this type of activity. Camera Control Pro (which one can find info about here, and a trial version here).
You just set the camera to PTP mode (in the menu), and the software will then allow you to control the camera, even doing the shots above.

Could do with a more interesting subject though. Nothing personal, I think it's top.

I'm looking to get a new laptop and a tripod, and then I'll shoot some of aircraft taking off/landing at Luton Airport. For now, this is all I can do without a tripod :)

..videoing planes now qualifies for a dawn raid and a control order.
Cant you find a neighbour who undresses in front of the window?

..seems to have been there a long time - worth checking it for abandoned rucksacks perhaps?
Our D50 packed up half way across Canada - it wouldnt switch on. If it keeps switching itself off randomly be warned! We replaced it with the D40 which we bought out there and then had a job getting our money back for the D50 as it was out of the 28 day period.

I went for the D40, cos it is cheap. My first SLR, so I don't have anything to compare it to ;)

D40 has basically replaced the D50. The biggest differences are a much bigger screen, better interface and a much lighter body. Both cracking cameras tho.
We bought it after i convinced Mrs Claypole that her existing SLR was ancient - the fact it was no 4 on Bullys Prize Board of an old verson of Bullseye helped (true story!)

You're forgetting, though, that the D40 has no motor drive in the body, ergo if the lens isn't AF-S, then it'll revert to manual focus. This matters if you're looking to pick up prime lenses like the 50mm 1.8F.
You've had bad luck with the D50 though. I've had it for a good few months without problem.

mine lasted around 5 months before packing in. Didnt realise about the motor drive.
This link gives a good comparison:

I was really disappointed that my Fuji 9600 wouldn't do this.
