I hate them too! They remind me of Bryce the old easy to use 3D app from years ago, you could create the same surreal landscapes in next to no time!

Photoshop has ruined my painting skills :(
Looks like he uses glossy paper so he can scratch the paint off to pure white.
Wondering what sort of paint / ink he's using. Any ideas?

I reckon it's printing ink
the kind they use for offset litho. It would behave like that on glossy paper.
