This is a link post Teenage Mutant Ninja/Hero Turtles
I was just scrolling through b3ta links and reading a few comments and the Turtles theme popped in to my head for some reason. Crazy how the mind works.

Anyway, this is a comparison between the USA and UK titles sequence which is actually a bit more than just swapping ninja for hero it turns out.

This is a normal post That looks interesting
I may watch it when I have an hour spare. Actually, I just watched the first 12 minutes, so now I only need about 48 minutes spare. Good.

This is a normal post Worth seeing through for curiosity value. I was unfamiliar with the plots before it even gets to halfway.
So either I got bored of the cartoon early on, or the later seasons never made it over to the UK.

This is a normal post I was trying to fit it to
"Heroes in a half shell" for some reason. I think I got confused. It's a tough project. I will need to give it more thought.

This is a normal post That's good even for Randall.
But what about heroes in a half-shell? Or indeed, turtle power?

This is a normal post The UK version really did cut all the bits out with nunchucks.
I wonder why. A sword is far more dangerous surely.

This is a normal post It was to do with 'repeatability' as I recall
The idea was that the BBFC censored anything that kids could easily repeat and cause significant harm.

So swords are ok because kids will just use sticks for swords, and getting clobbered with a stick is pretty minor stuff, unless your mate uses a really, really big stick.

But nunchucks are a different kettle of hyenas. Two short bits of wood and some string and suddenly you can knock some poor sod out without too much trouble.

It was the same deal with punching and headbutting. Punching is ok, people will get bruised, but you're unlikely to knock someone out unless you get lucky. BBFC used to cut headbutts from sub-15 rated stuff because headbutting requires very little skill, and can do serious damage to butt-er and butt-ee alike.

I'm not sure I 100% agreed with it, but it makes a kind of sense.

This is a normal post There are sticks and then there are sticks.
Stick fighting with garden canes can get quite bloody, as I recall. Once they start to split open they pinch your skin and start ripping bits off. And wooden swords are fairly deadly, they can surely break bones. All sticks and whatnot can put someone's eye out.

I think nunchucks were just something new and alien to these censor pricks.
