Green woodworking
I've started green woodworking this year and I've made a few tool handles and other bits - I'll be starting work on a Yert soon! Below is a new handle for my side axe.

Is this working with "green", or "fresh", wood, or doing it slowly like a pre-industrial revolution idiot?

Green wood is when it's "fresh" or recently been cut down.
It makes it easier to work with. I mainly use hand tools but occasionally use an electric drill. I'm hoping (once my current projects are finished) to start on making my bushcraft knife.

however it may split as the wood dries out!

Indeed!
The type of wood and how you dry it can have a big effect. I made a froe handle with chestnut and it split within a week. My axe handles are currently drying out in a shed and will remain there for a few months.

I've always wanted a yurt
but then I went to Ulaanbator and then realised I didn't actually want one.

The chap who is making one (who I'll be helping) will be using a few different methods in order to make it. If anything, I'll gain the knowledge and experience to make my own. Although, I wouldn't live in one - I would only have it as a garden feature and keep it for a couple of years.
