Wehttamman asks: My dad and I once built a go-kart from chipboard, pram wheels and an engine from a lawn mower. It didn't work... so tell us about your favourite things you've made, and whether they were a triumph or complete failure.

Generally I can't build anything without wonky bits sticking out all over, but a bit of planning and I managed to build a bike shelter in my front garden:

Got a tasty scar up the inside of my right arm too after getting a bit over-enthusiastic hammering in the ground anchors, falling over and nearly impaling myself on one.

(being fence posts cut down) but yes. They are now stained a lovely deep black/brown, and have been in place for three years without a problem.

Cheap, structural and has a nice crisp edge.
It's screwed down to the wood below with little rubber o-rings around the screws to stop water getting through. Works rather well.
I'd intended to put another piece of wood across to support it, but it doesn't seem to need it.

I especially like how it's tilted so that the rain will run off into the hedge for extra watering. (Not that that's really needed in England, but still...)

But I would worry about bike security. Have you got some kind of ground anchor to stop some tea leaf from half-inching it?

ever since the time someone climbed over the side gate and, upon encountering my Sold Secure turbo ultralock, decided to kick the fuck out of the wheels :(

too wide to fit through the front door.
Most scrotes seem to leave it alone. The bikes are inside so we can trip over them and get handlebars in the kidneys with ease.
