This is a question Books

We love books. Tell us about your favourite books and authors, and why they are so good. And while you're at it - having dined out for years on the time I threw Dan Brown out of a train window - tell us who to avoid.

I really enjoyed the Philip Pullman "His Dark Materials" books
I don't care that they were written for kids. They're dark, moody, unsentimental and beautiful, and Lee Scoresby and Hester are one of the best partnerships I've ever come across in a story.

Has been mentioned
But never the less the series is amazing, thinking about buying them again on kindle.

Like Mong goose I cried when Lee died, but also wept openly when Lyra has to be separated from Pan before she enters the land of the dead.

For some reason
I had to skip read the last 100 or so pages of the last book - my attention went and I lost the will. I think that was more me failing than the books and none the less I was surprised by how good they were.

I liked them quite a bit although I lost track of what was going on towards the end of the last book.
