I believe you about the ants, because my Dad's mate has a thriving business in California. He spray paints peoples lawns green, because they go brown without loads of water, and the water is starting to get a bit short...

It's all bollocksBlue dye such as Turf Mark Blue is added to herbicides to show which areas have been sprayed.
The fact that you can still see the fire ants after spraying shows which areas need re-treating.
