Call centres
seem to want people who can follow instructions to the letter repeatedly. Which they describe as "thinking outside the box."

Unlikely
However, a call centre is a term that can be applied to any office in which the focus of business is carried out via the phone.

Working in outbound publishing sales, what I look for is a person that can follow behavioural guidelines, uphold certain professional standards, speak articulately and think creatively, and for themselves, within the parameters given to them.

In very basic call centres (the ones with diallers or auto-answer)there is no requirement for independent thought. It is a case of follow the script; do not deviate.
