Yes, you're right...
...PIN number is a common and annoying one. That said, I used to speak to customers who had to enter a 10 digit PIN on an encryption device to activate it. I used to have to use the phrase when they failed to understand the 'word' PIN alone. Unfortunately people have even less of a clue when you say 'personal identification number'!
