You need to make sure you make an official complaint to Swiftcover about this. Their complaints procedure should be in your policy wording (also worth checking out the section on their right to cancel the policy which should be in there) which they are legally obliged to send you a copy of(assuming they didn't text it to you).
Basically complain to them in writing and if they don't resolve/give you a satisfactory answer within 8 weeks you can then take them to the financial ombudsman. Might also be worth checking online for the ICOBS rules - basically these are rules laid down by the FSA on how insurers must act when transacting business with private consumers.
I work for an insurance company that is (believe or not) an honest one and it does my head in when twats like swiftcover give everyone in the industry a bad name. No way in hell is text a valid form of communication - complain, get your cover reinstated and backdated, then sue the crap out them!

the problem is
I think swiftcover make it explicitly clear that they only use text and email...that's why they are half the price of everyone else. I used them and got the no-claims proof myself, scanned it and emailed it to them....
