another way to dodge voice recognition softwarethis is not infallible but a great many systems use 0 as a default operator extension. Also, to call your bank free, or at least without dialling 0870, simply use the "if you're calling ftom overseas" number on the back of your card.

0 for operatorThat is true, I have spent the past month phoning businesses on behalf of a certain Council to ask them annoying questions, and have found that pressing 0 at random can usually get me through to a real person.

*always* use the 0870 from a landline... Why? Since the 1st August 2009 - it costs *them* money. Every second you are on hold, they are paying for that priveledge, and you aren't paying what you were previously...
