another way to dodge voice recognition software
this is not infallible but a great many systems use 0 as a default operator extension. Also, to call your bank free, or at least without dialling 0870, simply use the "if you're calling ftom overseas" number on the back of your card.

That is true, I have spent the past month phoning businesses on behalf of a certain Council to ask them annoying questions, and have found that pressing 0 at random can usually get me through to a real person.

*always* use the 0870 from a landline... Why? Since the 1st August 2009 - it costs *them* money. Every second you are on hold, they are paying for that priveledge, and you aren't paying what you were previously...
