"Here in my car", said 80s pop hero Gary Numan, "I feel safest of all". He obviously never shared the same stretch of road as me, then. Automotive tales of mirth and woe, please.

"I'm heading north; I'm heading home, doing 125,
Close my eyes and count to ten - ha ha! And I'm still alive"
Because if ever I am behind the wheel of a car, to do this will be such bittersweet temptation I'm not sure I could trust myself.

An Australian Road movie of the late 80's (Running on Empty) used this device.
There was a crazy blind petrol station owner in the outback who would take his 57 Chevy out at night and just drive.
When asked how he knew he wouldn't hit anything he told our hero's he had 10 seconds at full throttle before there was anything to hit so he just counted.
Asked "What if you miscount?" he replied " Don't know. I should try it some time..."
