This is a question I don't understand the attraction

Smaug says: Ricky Gervais. Lesbian pr0n. Going into a crowded bar, purely because it's crowded. All these things seem to be popular with everybody else, but I just can't work out why. What leaves you cold just as much as it turns everyone else on?

Deal or No Deal
Okay, I've got a box, and it might be worth a shitload of money, or it might be worth fuck all.

But before I open it to find out I'll get all these other people to open theirs... because I think I can figure out where the low-value ones are O_o

Oh, and I'll periodically turn down offers of good money, because I'm pretty sure I've got a good sum in my box - I can tell, because it looks exactly like all the others.

And to top it all off, if I cave in really quickly, then we'll keep playing anyway, just to rub in how much more I could have won, or how lucky I was... anything, as long as it fills half an hour.

Hmmm, no I think I'd rather go and eat my own earwax - and we all know how horrible THAT tastes

Hell yes!
If I am ever forced to watch this shite I will scream with laughter when they give up £15k and win 10p. I am genuinely disappointed if anyone goes home with more than £1k

I have never watched it
well...I lie...I have watched about 10 seconds which was long enough to see Noel Edmunds and his shit eating grin.

Agreed
The most overrated shit on TV. I never understood the fascination, and everyone on the show acts in such a way that you'd think you were watching a fucking drama series, not a game show!

and I'll also watch this bearded man pretend to make a phone call
that could possibly affect the outcome, except it won't, because he's only pretending.

I see the problem here...
Your 'system' obviously isn't that good...

Fucking system my sweaty arse-crack - it's fucking guesswork you morons!

...was going to post this, glad I'm not alone :D
Except for the ear-wax bit. You can keep that :)

but mine isn't as funny.

Doesnt..
Goldenballs have a similar plot to it, except you get double stuffed at the end if you both choose to 'steal'

A thousand clicks
My missus watches this shit, in the full knowledge that it's all just fucking guesswork and there's no skill involved. And just where do they find all the fucknuts they get on as contestants?
And that's before we even get to Noel-fucking-Edmonds

There is a certain subset
of mathematician that loves this show. It's like someone is funding an extended research project into game theory. You know all those hypotheticals about "you can take a tenner now, or open the door which may have a million quid behind it, or may have nothing" sort of questions? Well, this is about as close as it comes to actually playing those scenarios out.

Of course, the producers make sure that the contestants are morons who choose a box because its number is their daughter's neice's birthday, rather than hyper-rational probability theorists, but I find it interesting to watch anyway.

Hmm...
"Of course, the producers make sure that the contestants are morons who choose a box because its number is their daughter's neice's birthday, rather than hyper-rational probability theorists, but I find it interesting to watch anyway."

I'm not sure I understand how any method for picking boxes that all look the same is more rational than any other.
