This is a question I don't understand the attraction

Smaug says: Ricky Gervais. Lesbian pr0n. Going into a crowded bar, purely because it's crowded. All these things seem to be popular with everybody else, but I just can't work out why. What leaves you cold just as much as it turns everyone else on?

It's too much of a soft target
to criticise your spelling - if you're going to have a go at a religion, at least know how to spell its name - so instead I'll ask the question:

"Have you actually met / known anyone who has converted to Islam and behaved in the way you are describing ? Have you ever met a Muslim who has for instance been unhappy at the mention of Christmas ? Have you ever offered a Muslim food or drink (whether or not it was in Ramadan) ?"

No, thought not.

Try getting your prejudices from real life, not the Daily Mail.

Not saying Muslims are perfect. But guess what, no-one is. You can be a wanker regardless of who you believe in.

Thanks for the tip on the spelling
and yes, I actually am citing some real experience and tingeing it with a little bit of satire in this rant.

I worked in a company for several years and some of the staff where from Islamic families. One woman in particular was great value, loved to go out and had friends from all walks of life but, after the Twin Towers incident started to wear the full robes and head covering and roped in a few of the weaker minded women of middle eastern decent in the office to do the same, while brushing her non Muslim mates. She did complain bitterly about the Christmas decorations (although not to the point of calling the ADB). The bit about the bacon rolls and the chippy I made up.

It was her husband who was just visiting the office at lunch time who got all pissed off when I asked if he wanted to join us for a staffies lunch (that everyone in the office was invited to), he told me I was a ignorant skip (thats what the wogs call the Aussies in Oz) and disrespectful of his beliefs, but, less eloquently and with more swearing (I didn't even know it was Ramadan, we don't make a big deal of it in Australia).

The bloke who I worked with at the same company who used to break meetings to go pray and didn't want to work Fridays, I don't think was too dedicated to his religion but, was more looking for legal ways to bludge and get paid.

Come on, you have to admit it is funny when someone lives up to the extreme end of a stereotype and isn't it more fun when someone else gives you a platform to rant about it.

If I have offended you I do apologize but, it is not directed at you personally unless you behave this way, and if you do, apology withdrawn.

Now I have not ever read the Daily Mail but, it sounds interesting, got a link by any chance?

Shouldn't satire
Be funny?

Dam
you have a point
(, Fri 16 Oct 2009, 9:47, closed)
Ah, you're Australian.
That would explain a fair bit.
(, Fri 16 Oct 2009, 9:06, closed)
I disagree
everyone knows that those filthy criminal dregs (see my 'satire' there?) are the most tolerant people on earth. Just because he was incapable of making his points without slipping out phrases like 'musos' and 'wogs' doesn't mean he's an ignorant prick!

trolls - don't feed 'em *is a bit of a hypocrite, but oh well*

I'm not ignorant!
.

Yes you are.
You're Australian. Most of the Australians I've met are ignorant racists.

(Don't worry - it's just satire!)

Being born in Australia and living there a lot of my life
I know you are right. It's a funny thing though, the greatest number of immigrants to Australia are from the British Isles and most of our opinions until the late 50's where based on English opinion.

Yet we have produced such comic genius as this

www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMAyGewq37w

But, not to worry, we will be saved soon, as the largest group of people applying for residency are you lot, the English, and surely your level minded equality for all influence will rub off on us.

I wonder though if the reason that you lot want to move Doen Under is to be a part of the land of No recession, proper banking controls, zero dollar tax payer banking bail outs, fine weather, good cricket teams (imagine I did that strike out stuff, but, I don't know the geek code), highest level of resident satisfaction and excellent wines or if it is because we have our nig nogs under control.

I am going to have to change my handle after this week aren't I?

Excellent Wines...
...until your water runs out. Say, Thursday. Or maybe next Tuesday if you're lucky.

I would also think the exchange rate (as the idiot emigres forget that they'd be earning in AUD too) & price of property has something to do with it.
(, Mon 19 Oct 2009, 11:43, closed)
Water isn't as big a problem as everyone thinks
It is mainly the cities that are effected due to population growth exceeding infrastructure and farmers employing European farming methods.

Exchange rates don't matter when you shop in local currency and it is comparative to the cost of living.

Australian property is still showing positive growth in all cities, with growth over the past 10 years exceeding 100% in all major residential areas, and as our banks aren't broke and needing tax payer bailouts, the value has remained stable in the current financial crisis. Growth is tipped to exceed 30% in the next five years.

erm sorry..
"Have you actually met / known anyone who has converted to Islam and behaved in the way you are describing ? Have you ever met a Muslim who has for instance been unhappy at the mention of Christmas ? Have you ever offered a Muslim food or drink (whether or not it was in Ramadan) ?"

yes big time:

I lived in Dubai for a year

I experienced all of the above and a lot worse

I had a meeting with a high ranking well educated government official who laughed that dithering colleagues who could not reach a decision "were like a Jew"

I have had a number supposedly devout Muslims tell me how they hated Jews and wanted to see them wiped from the face of the earth.

Any design work that contained any graphic that could even be remotely perceived as a cross, plus sign or even an 'x' "was offensive to Muslims"

A colleague went bonkers when an email was sent round inviting people for a ‘drink after work’

The mere sight of a non Muslim drinking water in their own car during Ramadan was an arrestable offence – and people ARE arrested for this every year.

The official media reported 18 RTA deaths due to dehydrated irritable drivers racing home for Iftar that year alone - Christ knows what the real figures were

All those Indian construction workers/slaves – 12 hours toiling in the height of summer during Ramadan - no water allowed.

Screens are put up for non Muslims to hide behind to eat their lunch.

The levels of hypocrisy were incredible - I worked with many Muslims who drank and used prostitutes and ate pork then reckoned observing Ramadan absolved them of this

I had a number of clients who basically went nocturnal in order to avoid Ramadan or went abroad but still expected you to work all day then meet them at night to smoke shisha.

and lets look at shisha - zero tolerance to drugs? i used to smoke a lot of weed and i can tell you for a fact - that stuff gets you completely bongoed

Supposedly very devout Muslims who were very rich from profits from bars and booze shops – also many who became rich from profits from interest charges on loans and mortgages – not supposed to happen under Islam

One of the most surreal experiences was being in a bar stuffed full of African and Russian prostitutes – hard to avoid in Dubai. The police wandering around to check no one was smoking and that no music was being played – yip that’s right an eerily quiet nightclub. So no smoking or music but prostitution and drinking was fine.

I would not have believed such open shameless racism sexism and sheer hypocrisy existed had I not experienced it first hand. Their culture their country you say? From what i saw all of their ideals were up for grabs when it suited them but god/allah help you if you contravened them.
