Smaug says: Ricky Gervais. Lesbian pr0n. Going into a crowded bar, purely because it's crowded. All these things seem to be popular with everybody else, but I just can't work out why. What leaves you cold just as much as it turns everyone else on?

It must be popular, since every flat and most of the houses built in the past 15 years shouts about it's 'Modern, open plan living space'. Everyone must think its the nuts. Right?
It just means that the kitchen is in the lounge, though. Which I just can't dig. When did we all lose the will to have a separate kitchen and lounge?

Open plan to me translates as "aaaah Fuck it, we can't be arsed building all these internal walls" Me, I LIKE rooms, big ones, little ones, tiny ones with fireplaces in, that you can shut the door and feel all cosy in. Give me a small house with a half a dozen rooms in, instead of a house that feels like an airport terminal.

..its actually 'ye oldern' plan living. all homes / castles were built 'open plan living' up until around the 18th century.
actually think it is one of the simplest remedies to the social problems inflicted by a modern world where everyone seems to be spending their entire lives communicating via mobile, sms, mms, email, skype, facebook, b3ta... with a sky plus box set up in every bloody room...etc

Up until the advent of central heating, rooms couldn't really be bigger than could be heated by the fireplace.

...most communal activities were contained in one room!
perhaps then, we ought to blame central heating for the demise of good old fashioned family life and values?
