I don't understand the attraction
Smaug says: Ricky Gervais. Lesbian pr0n. Going into a crowded bar, purely because it's crowded. All these things seem to be popular with everybody else, but I just can't work out why. What leaves you cold just as much as it turns everyone else on?

Religion.
It's the 21st century, not the Dark Ages.
In most countries, religion is no longer compulsory. Churches have no power over us. So why choose to subject yourself and your family to the rule of religion?
Beats me.

It's not the actual belief that I have a problem with
it's the way some religious people* choose to reject perfectly good things about modern life on the grounds that they're sinful.
Contraception, for example - how is choice about whether or not one conceives not a good thing?
I've known people who've refused to divorce hated spouses because divorce was a sin, even though they've separated and both met new partners.
Don't get me started on blood transfusions or women's rights!
*I say 'religious PEOPLE' because in this day and age, adults are free to reject the loonier strictures of their church, so they must be actively choosing to obey them.

Yeah but no but yeah but
while that applies to kids, in this day and age adults can choose to live how they like.
Religion is a lifestyle choice like any other - nobody's forced to submit to it any more.

Adults - especially uneducated adults - are almost as susceptible to indoctrination as children.

Even if they've been subjected to it from birth they can still question it and make their own decisions.
Many do this. They have a lot of fun!

What really gets on my tits is that my daughter goes to a non-denominational school where they pray to Jesus, go to church etc etc, all because its part of the government education guidelines. It's a non-denominational school ffs, surely the religious indoctrination of my child should be down to me.

That'll be school policy, decided by the governors,
if you're in the England or Wales, where schools don't legally have to teach Christianity.

Get yourself elected a parent governor then
and challenge him. School policies are decided by the whole board of governors, and all governors' votes carry equal weight.
Go for it!

Because it's funny!
And, I'll bet you told your kids there really was a Santa, and Tooth Fairy, and Easter Bunny...
What's the difference?
