This is a question I don't understand the attraction

Smaug says: Ricky Gervais. Lesbian pr0n. Going into a crowded bar, purely because it's crowded. All these things seem to be popular with everybody else, but I just can't work out why. What leaves you cold just as much as it turns everyone else on?

Radio One
I know that at 38 years old I no doubt fall quite a way outside the age group that Radio One are trying to appeal to, but of late this station has really begun to wind me up to the point that I can't listen to it anymore.
Chris Moyles and "comedy" Dave along with the rest of their little crew broadcast such utter, repetitive childish shite that most even most eleven year olds must find it tiresome. The basically tolerable Jo Whiley seems to have been replaced by Fearne Cotton, who although easy on the eye is an annoying, banal bint who "LOVES" everything, every band, song, etc. Edith Bowman is little better, with her irritating Scottish brogue and stupid fucking catchphrases like "Wakkid!" and "Get In!". Then we have a pair of reedy voiced twats (one Northern, one Southern): Greg James and Nick Grimshaw, who as far as I'm concerned might as well be one and the same, personality-free wanker.
Scott Mills is quite amusing at times and has his moments I suppose, and the content of Zane Lowe's show (if not his horribly enthusiastic style) is pretty good, but in short, a really good way of "grinding my gears" is to spend the day listening to Radio One. They can't even read the fucking news without having to play some music behind it. And why the fuck do their jingle singers feel the need to put on an American accent?

The only regret I have is that every so often Radio One play some decent new music (i.e., not R&B) and I might miss out on it.

And yes. I'm a miserable old bastard. But I really don't see the attraction of Radio One anymore.

I have never liked Radio 1
if I want to be shouted at by overpaid idiots i'll go and tell some bankers that they dont deserve their bonuses.

Bring back that nice Mr Wogan, I say.

Quite.
and Tony Blackburn. Oh - he's an irritating twunt too, isn't he?

Agreed
I'm 36, and gave up on Radio 1 years ago.

Occasionally when on a long drive and bored with my CDs I'll go through the FM band, and am more likely to think "Ooh, I like this" when I hear a song on Radio 2. Which used to be my gran's station of choice, which is a bit worrying.

PS I could never be a Radio 1 DJ
They seem to have to profess to liking absolutely everything, whereas I'd play an R&B or Lily Allen track and want to say "Sorry, that was a bit shit, wasn't it?"...

I agree...
But I'd still so do Lily Allen...

Get radio 6
Via the intermaweb... it has the "new modern tunes that the kids like" along with great older tunes too

I used to have to listen to Radio One all day for 6 months because of a job.
Not one good presenter, feature or song in all that time. Chris Moyles is stupid, obnoxious, fat and most importantly, the least funny man in the world. Him with his stupid lackeys and yes men laughing at every "joke" he made was and is terrible.

And don't start me on Jo Whiley - just because she booked Nirvana for the Word she thinks she discovered them. All I need to say about her musical taste and talent is that at the Live 8 concerts she said Pink Floyd were too dad rock and Razorlight were the best band all day.

Stupid fucking bint.

Oh, I'm 26.

See also: Newsbeat.
Seemingly desgned for and by imbeciles, the presenters talk extra slowly and don't use big words to make it easier for the hard of thinking while peppering what little news content there is with pointless vox-pops and text messages from idiot members of the public. Gaah!

/\ /\ /\ this
is it just me or do the newsreader's on newsbeat enunciate like complete mongs as well? Stress is placed on the wrong words / syllables all the time. Perhaps it's part of radio-speak training but either way it irritates the shit out of me.

nothing tolerable about Jo Whiley
Mary Ann Hobbs is alright although apparently a bit of a starfucker. But truth be told, decent Radio 1 died with John Peel.
(, Mon 19 Oct 2009, 15:34, closed)
Don't listen to it then
And while the stuff during the day is gash, there are some excellent shows on later- Mary Anne Hobbs and Annie Nightingale for starters.
(, Mon 19 Oct 2009, 18:05, closed)
totally agree
Was it Viz that ran a spoof advert many years ago, something along the lines of "Radio (no) One ('s listening)?

But I have to say that I won't listen to Radio 2 drivetime when Simon Mayo takes over. Never have I heard such a miserable sour person as him. I'd rather shaft my own ringpiece with a coarse and rusty file.

Rob da Bank and Gilles Peterson are good
Even though admittedly I never listen to them live on air.
