This is a question I don't understand the attraction

Smaug says: Ricky Gervais. Lesbian pr0n. Going into a crowded bar, purely because it's crowded. All these things seem to be popular with everybody else, but I just can't work out why. What leaves you cold just as much as it turns everyone else on?

Football Manager Games
Now, see, as a nerdy video game type person, I can understand why people play the football simulation games (Fifa, yey!). But Football Manager? I just... I don't get it. At all. I wish I could, I feel like I'm desperately missing out on something. :(

No you're not
unless spreadsheets really turn you on

it's simple really
Fifa is about the playing side, Football Manager is more of the management/tactical/keeping-the-club-running-daily side, and I FUCKING LOVE IT.

Can't wait till 2010 arrives next Friday - I've played the demo and it is ACE.

I must say that I have played every version of Football Manager (and it's previous incarnation Champ) for I am sad and addicted. Fifa is good, but i prefer it with friends. Beating the computer is too damn easy - and that's another reason I prefer FM - it's not so predictable.

Football Manager
On the one hand is like a glorified Railroad Tycoon or Dope Wars (both hugely popular), where as a kind of nerdy hobby it's a game of trying to become as successful as possible via the "buy cheap sell big" kind of mentality. It is hugely satisfying running a tight ship.

And then on the other hand, every football fan has a grand scheme of how to do things. Just check a message board or two about how Grimsby should sign Ronaldinho or how they should employ a revolutionary 2-3-5 tactic. For the most part they are idiots, and FM can actually educate people on the intricies of football.

i lost my husband to that game about 10 years ago. He too loves the new demo and " just cant wait" for the game. I may as well have my fanny sewn up. ( and its a very nice fanny too ) you are indeed missing something ... allegedly

Football Manager 2007
I have it sitting here on my shelf. My mate threw it in when I could only find four things I wanted in a 5-for-£25 deal, so I thought I might as well give it a go. Three words: Microsoft bloody Access. That shit bored me enough at work, having it on the Xbox isn't exactly my idea of fun.

I agree partially.
I do a fair bit of research for one of the English clubs, and the majority of my non work/non social life is now taken up by the game and research.

I get the game for free though.
