This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

what exactly is working class?
is it just purely people on the dole-type of people, or does it include other.

My mum is a nurse, my dad was an travel agent, am i working class or middle class?

.
Given that dole-type people don't work, I think it'd probably be ironic to call them working class, most of the dole dossing chavs out there could be classed as the underclass.

It depends how pretentious you want to be, I was always led to believe the middle class contained the doctors, lawyers etc. I believe you can now be upper, middle or lower working class...

Actually...
I believe the generally-accepted class definitions run as follows:

If you work for your income, you're working class.
If you make your living through the ownership of property, you're middle class.
If your family wealth comes from inheritence, you're upper class (nobility not required).

You, sir, are working class. I'd suggest that dole-scroungers should be dubbed "peasants", but real peasants actually worked, and damned hard...
