This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

beer
Does anyone remember the phrase "mucky beer"?

"What's that granddad's drinking?"
"Mucky beer, urghh"

I used this phrase with my kids when they were young, my mother-in-law said "It's not mucky beer, it's dirty beer".

Hulloquialism?
Mucky beer perhaps a Yorkshire/Hull colloquialism. Son grew up with that one. Using it now with Neph'.

Dirty beer just doesn't sound right.
